VENUS, TX — A heartfelt thank you goes out to the volunteers who recently came together for a Brush with Kindness project in Venus, helping a local homeowner in need.

Concern for Mr. Ricky’s well-being began when a neighbor reached out to Habitat for Humanity of Ellis County, fearing he was at risk of losing his home. Following a recent inspection, his insurance company deemed the house uninsurable due to its condition. Fortunately, he was given a limited window of time to complete critical repairs.
The home required extensive work. A deteriorating roof had allowed water to seep inside, damaging the carpet and subflooring. Several areas of the soffit were rotting, sections of siding were compromised, and the back door ramp needed to be replaced. The house also required a fresh coat of paint.
Thanks to generous donations from neighbors and local businesses, as well as the dedication of Habitat’s volunteer team, most of the repairs were completed in a single day. Community members continued the effort in the days that followed, finishing the remaining work.
Through Habitat’s network of partners, Mr. Ricky also received a brand-new roof at no cost, courtesy of Centennial Contracting and Roofing of Midlothian.
Although Mr. Ricky was unable to physically assist with the repairs, he remained by the volunteers’ side throughout the process, expressing deep gratitude for the support that ultimately saved his home.
